Blog > Happy Earth Day!
Did you know that the first official Earth Day was observed in 1970? Over 20 million people took to the streets to protest for more environmental protections. Since then the movement has taken off in popularity and Earth Day is now globally recognized every April 22nd. Here are some tips on how you can help the environment this year.
- Get creative to switch up your commute. With high gas prices, this will benefit both you and the planet. Try carpooling, take public transportation, and work from home when possible. If you live close enough, you can even consider walking or bicycling to work.
- Switch to online shopping. Studies show that online shopping is better for the environment because it takes 30% less resources to sell an item online than in a store.
- Switch to reusable products. Drop the disposable water bottles and switch to reusable containers.
- Buy gently used items at a thrift store. When you buy from a thrift store or select a reusable item, resources aren't being used to create new products. This can cut down the amount of materials being sent to landfills.
If you're looking for even more ways to make an impact, check out local events. Many towns will host events such as tree planting, roadside cleanups and more!
